The claim is forfeited by law. If the ground is still open, we can restake it. (Claim staking)

How late can I sign up?

Through August 31. We pay the fees the day your payment clears our account, so earlier is safer.

Is paying BLM enough?

It covers the federal requirement. Some states also require a yearly filing with the county.

What you get

The annual maintenance fee paid to the BLM for each claim. For the 2027 assessment year (due September 1, 2026) that is $200 per lode claim, and $200 per 20 acres of placer claim.

Small miner waiver

If you hold 10 or fewer claims nationwide, you may qualify to file a small miner waiver instead of paying the fee. The waiver is due by September 1. You then have to do at least $100 of work on each claim during the year and record it with the BLM by December 30.
